Skin Med Spa Adopts And Establishes The Natural Results Protocol for Injectable And Aesthetic Patients

Patients who come in for injectables get a consultation first, and the dosing is spread across more than one visit instead of being done all at once. Skin Med Spa runs the Lumenis M22 platform with its IPL, Q-switched Nd:YAG and ResurFX modules, plus OPUS Plasma, TruSculpt iD, Exceed microneedling, the Plaxel plasma pen, VirtueRF radiofrequency microneedling, CoolPeel CO2 and MotusAZ laser hair removal. Having that many platforms under one roof means the treatment gets picked to match the patient's skin type and concern, rather than the patient being fitted to whichever single device the practice happens to own. It also means two different treatments can often be combined in one appointment.

Every treatment is performed by one of the two people who own the place. Barbara Kowalczyk is a board-certified nurse practitioner and licensed aesthetic injector, and she does most of the injectable work, including neuromodulators, fillers and thread lifts. Michael "Magic Mike" Fressola, also a board-certified nurse practitioner, brings over 26 years of medical experience and handles the laser and radiofrequency side, including CO2 resurfacing and radiofrequency microneedling. Neither hands treatments off to rotating staff, which the practice points to as the reason a patient's results tend to look the same from one visit to the next.

"The standard we hold ourselves to is that nobody should be able to tell someone was treated," Barbara said. "That means we would rather do less in the first appointment and bring a patient back than overcorrect and spend the next three months undoing it. It costs us a visit. It is the right way to treat a face."

Same-day appointments are usually available, and the practice keeps Saturday hours with later slots by request, something it started doing once patients began making the drive in from further west.

"People are coming to us from further out than they used to, and the drive changes what they expect from a visit," Mike said. "If someone is coming from West Chicago or Winfield, we want the consultation and the treatment to be worth the trip rather than making them come back four times for something we could have planned properly the first time."
